About the event

St Mary the Virgin Butetown will be taking part in the Churches unlocked festival

Our festival events and activities will be exploring ‘Welcome, Sanctuary and Diversity.’ Each day has something different to offer but, throughout the week, there will be stand-alone opportunities to discover more about St Mary’s Church and the brilliant multi-cultural community of Butetown and Tiger Bay, as we also celebrate Refugee Week 2022

These include:

Exhibitions and Displays from St Mary’s School (including an Audio-Visual Loop),

The Cultural Exchange/Tiger Bay and the World,

Info-point,

and others.

Prayer Stations

In addition to the outdoor opportunities for discovery and prayer, you can also engage with the Prayer Stations inside the church, designed and created with children.

In the weeks before there is also a Refugee week Poetry Competition for Church Primary School with the winners announced at the Presentation Ceremony on Thursday.
